Crossfire War - Warnings of a Possible Military Coup in Baghdad
By Willard Payne
Crossfire War - TEHRAN WATCH - West Asia Theatre - Baghdad: Tehran - Baghdad/London - Washington; Iraqi MP Warning of Possible Military Coup Against Al - Maliki Government - Invalidation of the Elections - "National Rescue Government"
Night Watch: BAGHDAD - The pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat is reporting that due to the obvious failure of Iraq Prime Minister Nour Al-Maliki's effort to end the violence in the country, which has killed more than 6,000 people in May and June, an Iraqi Minister of Parliament is now warning about the possibility of a military coup replacing him. The warning is from Hadi Al-'Amiri speaking in the Shi'te religious city of Najaf. [
ASHARQALAWSAT]
Al-'Amiri is head of the Badr Organization, the military wing of the High Council of the Islamic Revolution, directly connected to Tehran. He stated, "There are some who talk about toppling Al-Maliki's government and replacing it with a national rescue government, which we call a military coup government." He continued by admitting that such an act will mean, "The invalidation of the constitution and the results of the elections as well as returning to the starting point."
A starting point that begins in Tehran which is definitely behind the "talk" - they will no doubt use it to install an administration closer to Tehran than any of the previous governments. To insure its popularity it will make no pretense of working with the lost alliance, London-Washington. The new administration will openly make overtures to regimes rejected and opposed by the West, Damascus-Tehran. They will also openly call for more support for the people of Lebanon as opposed to Israel, including military support, increasing the sense of alarm-outrage and atmosphere of crisis throughout the region.
Baghdad's new government will definitely be militaristic but perhaps not as religious as Tehran. Secular Iraqis, who agree with the new government's sense of order, will be accepted. Any armed group of any sect, opposed to the new dictatorial regime and its draconian measures, in the name of stability, will be dealt with militarily. This will be Tehran's final step in consolidating its hold over Iraq. I suspect the coup could happen at any moment.
London-Washington will be made to feel even more unwelcome than ever. Attacks against the coalition forces will increase making the US/UK defeat even more undeniable.
