New Technologies: Duplicating Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Hard Drives

Intelligent Computer Solutions Presents the First Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Duplicator

Not long after the introduction of the new Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard drives to the market, Intelligent Computer Solutions (ICS) has presented its first hard drive duplicator for SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) and (SATA) Serial ATA hard drives; Image MASSter™ 6007SAS.

ICS, a sixteen year old California based company, the developer of the hard drive duplication technology through hardware, and manufacturer of the Image MASSter™ line, has just released the first SAS duplicator that copies from 1 to 7 hard drives at speeds exceeding 3.7GB/min.

With multiple capabilities the unit can duplicate the entire hard drive or copy data only, store multiple images on one hard drive and sanitize all 8 drives much faster than any method in the market today.

This versatile, fast duplicator can also copy Serial ATA hard drives, IDE hard drives (using a 3rd party IDE to SATA adapter) and has an optional copy mode of SCSI to SAS/SATA hard drives. The SCSI to SAS option may become quite significant because of the clear advantage of the new SAS hard drives over the traditional SCSI drives. For those who look to upgrade servers and transfer data at high speed from old SCSI hard drives it serves as an ideal tool.

Integrating the traditional features of the Image MASSter™ line in this new duplicator allows the unit a great deal of flexibility, enabling it to perform multiple tasks.

The IQ Copy, for instance, supports all Windows Operation Systems, where only allocated sectors are duplicated, and makes it possible to copy 20GB of data to 7 drives simultaneously in less than 6 minutes!

The sector-by-sector copy on the other hand, allows the duplication of any operation system not based on FAT File System, such as LINUX, NOVEL, HPFS and any other proprietary operation system.

As a Windows based unit with 1Gbit network the Image MASSter™ 6007SAS Duplicator allows access to each of the 8 hard drives to modify them prior to duplication and download or upload files from the server. The unit also allows connecting and removing hard drives while the system is on (hot swap).

The list price of the Image MASSter™ 6007SAS is $8,050 and it can be purchased through one of ICS Sales Offices (www.ics-iq.com) or their authorized dealers.

ICS was established in 1990 and has a published patent of its duplication technology as well as its back-up system. The ICS Image MASSter™ line is used by major PC manufacturers, large and middle size corporations, government and the educational market.
