Neighborhood Watch - A Truly Disturbing Movie based on True Events

By Anne Howard

Neighborhood Watch - A profoundly disturbing film
A movie that makes David Lynch look like Mary Poppins.

"Neighborhood Watch is the touching story of a man trying to police his neighborhood from an outbreak of perverted sex"

Montreal, QC (rushprnews) July 18th, 2006- A terrifying psychological thriller, NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH written and directed by Graeme Whifler, produced by Jeff Kirshbaum and Michael J. Brody will be showing at Midnight, Friday July 21st as part of the Fantasia Film Festival 2006 screenings.

Superbly acted by a cast composing of Nick Searcy from DAYS OF THUNDER, FRIED GREEN TOMATOES and THE PRINCE OF TIDES whose performance in this film is being compared to Anthony Perkins' in Psycho, the other cast includes Jack Huston, grandson of John Huston and Pell James who was lately seen playing opposite Bill Murray in BROKEN FLOWERS, this film is truly terrifying to its audience.

The director, Graeme Whifler and the producer, Michael J. Brody will be present at the screening and are both available for interviews prior and following to the screening.

Although it may be comforting to imagine that the chilling story of "Neighborhood Watch" is entirely fictional, "It's actually based in truth", says writer/director Graeme Whifler. "I saw a story on a TV news show about an ambulance attendant who used to bring in donuts and snacks for his fellow crew members" Whifler explains. "He seemed like a normal, likable guy. But gradually people on his crew learned not to eat anything he brought in. The people who kept eating this stuff were feeling sick all the time. The more they ate, the sicker they got. Well, it turned out that he was putting rat poison in the donuts! Years later, this guy became a doctor and ended up in prison because at least six of the patients he assisted died from poisoning."

The disturbing theme of self-mutilation that provides "Neighborhood Watch" with some of its most potent shocks is also based on a news segment that Whifler heard over the radio. It tells the story of a man so obsessed with sex that he ends up castrating himself and turned his living quarter into an operating room to cut open his stomach and poke looking for the organic source of his obsession. These horrific true stories provided the basic concept of "Neighborhood Watch". This isn't a film about violence, it's about the fear of being violated. The whole movie is a series of violations designed to chip away at each one of those childhood fears we all have inside us. I want to entertain my audience. I want to make them squirm and cringe and really disturb them," Whifler explains, and from reaction's audience, it seems that Whifler has succeeded.

QUOTES FROM REVIEWS "If the website ( http://neighborhoodwatchthefilm.com/) is any indication of how well this film will be promoted, then I say kudos to Whifler and Cafe Productions. Neighborhood Watch's website is one of the darkest spots on the internet and I strongly urge those reading this review to give the site a full once-over. It's like seeing a train wreck for the first time."
