15 Million Women Suffer From a Low Libido! ... Or Do They?

Dr. Gina Ogden's New Study of Women's Sexuality Reveals Previous Sex Studies Were Wrong and Shortchanged Women

Cambridge, MA (rushprnews) Why do a reported 15 million women suffer from low sex drive? Because the word "sex" has become synonymous with intercourse and orgasm. Male sexuality has been the norm in sex research and in popular culture. But clinical sex therapist Dr. Gina Ogden noted that, for many women, intercourse is not what they find most satisfying and meaningful about sex, so she launched a landmark study to investigate how women define "great sex."

Over 4,000 people (33% more than the Hite Report) responded to the ISIS (Integrating Spirituality in Sexuality) Survey. Nearly all respondents said that emotional and spiritual elements in their sexual encounters were crucial for sexual satisfaction. Amazingly, less than 1% mentioned the physical act of intercourse. Ogden's research reveals that previous sex studies actually shortchanged women by asking the wrong questions. They excluded feelings and meanings that are important to women's sexual desire and satisfaction.

Now, Dr. Ogden has published the results of her study in a new book, The Heart and Soul of Sex: Making the ISIS Connection (Trumpeter Books, July 2006), offering an in-depth explanation of women's sexual experience, and a revolutionary model of human sexuality that encompasses mind, heart, and soul, as well as body.
