Police TASER Device Prevents Public Injuries
WASHINGTON, June 9, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. , a market leader in advanced electronic control devices, released the following News Alert:
According to news reports from the United Kingdom's Norfolk Eastern Daily Press, just before 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, officers were dispatched to Hillington Square in King's Lynn after receiving reports of a man who was threatening the public with a samurai sword. When police attempted to talk with the 21 year-old, he became aggressive and a struggle ensued. An officer then used a TASER device, which allowed the police to detain and arrest him. The man remains in custody under suspicions of making threats to kill.
The Norfolk Police Department received TASER systems last year, but this incident marks the first time a TASER device has been deployed. Superintendent Bernie Cartwright of the Norfolk Police said the TASER device offered, "the appropriate level of force to bring the incident to conclusion without compromising the safety the members of public present, and of the officers and the individual concerned."
