BicyTaxi is an amazing service cycling around Manhattan that successfully

Readying to roll
BicyTaxi U.S. is owned and operated by a group of private New York
investors with extensive knowledge regarding operations, customer support
and the hospitality market. BicyTaxi units are manufactured in Germany, and
are shipped directly to the company's operating hub in New York.
According to Blidner, the "advertising in motion concept" originated in
Europe and has spread to more than 35 international locations. Global
brands such as Sony, Nike, MasterCard and T-Mobile are among the first to
jump on the advertising bandwagon in Germany, Europe, Asia and Australia.
Currently 50 units are available for the U.S. market through September, at
which time the fleet will grow to 100 units through March 2007. Additional
units are available upon demand.
"We're very excited to introduce BicyTaxi to the US market, starting our
operation right here in Manhattan," Blidner said. "Any company wishing to
advertise via BicyTaxi can do so with an approximate14-day turn-around
time. In that time we can prep the BicyTaxis, design the advertising, wrap
the vehicle and have drivers ready to roll."
Advertising costs have yet to be determined, Blidner said, although the
company anticipates a one-time set-up fee of $450 to $650. Campaign costs
will vary depending on the venue, market demand, and the length a promotion
is scheduled to run. Blidner said charges of $1,900 per month per cart for
extended campaigns are being considered. Transportation costs for BicyTaxi
are currently set at $1 per block with a $10 minimum per person in New
York.
Drivers wanted
BicyTaxi is in the process of looking for drivers 18 years of age or older
with a standard New York drivers license. Drivers are required to wear a
uniform and conform to BicyTaxi policies.
"Our drivers hail from all nationalities, most ranging in age between 20
and 30," Blidner said. "Bicytaxi drivers are a reflection of urban society
and include students, craftsmen, musicians and computer professionals, all
of whom have found an athletically-oriented job with BicyTaxi. We welcome
drivers from a variety of backgrounds because it makes it easier to find
common ground with the diversity among passengers we anticipate attracting.
"We've actually had drivers tell us that they can't believe they get paid
to drive a BicyTaxi because it's so much fun and provides an exceptional
work-out that you get paid for," he said.
As BicyTaxi takes off in the New York market, Blidner said the "advertising
in motion" service is expected to roll out next to the Miami, Las Vegas,
Chicago and Boston markets.
