Immigration Issues Impact U.S. Born American Citizen: Iannuccilli-Mathew Confronts Deportation To Aruba
Issue Puts Family At Crossroads
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (EWORLDWIRE) May 30, 2006
According to the United States government, American citizens are not able to marry whom they chose and if they do marry a non American citizen they better be prepared to face the harsh reality that from one day to the next their family can be ripped apart at the seams. Worst of all, the Government disregards desperate pleas to keep families intact. America is the only civilized country in the world that condemns their American citizens for marrying a person of a different nationality, states Dr. Iannuccilli-Mathew.
The United States government is clearly violating civil rights and belittling the institution of marriage yet it proclaims "in God we trust." Around the world, a marriage is a legal relationship between two people who vow to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish from this day forward until death do us part.
For one specific family, that of Dr. Iannuccilli-Mathew, the heartache and disaster is all too real. Dr. Iannuccilli-Mathew, a U.S.-born American citizen, was married to a Dutch Arubian citizen 11 years ago in Chicago, where an American judge, Judge Arthur Rosenblum, made her swear to cherish her husband until death due them part. Yet, 11 years later, the husband and wife team could not have predicted the situation they are now enmeshed in - a quandary of bureaucratic red tape that appears to be headed in the direction of expulsion of these two business owners from Rhode Island.
The U.S. government is attempting to deport her husband, Edwardo Mathew, after accusing him of lying on his residency application. This action clearly demonstrates the government’s blatant disregard for the American family and the institution of marriage.
During evaluation of her options, Dr. Iannuccilli-Mathew finds few: either be deported along with her husband and their U.S. born 16 month old child or file for divorce.
In a move rarely heard of, Dr. Iannuccilli-Mathew stands poised to relinquish her citizenship rights and nationality as a U.S. citizen. Her situation not only impacts the life of her family but the lives of the people they employ.
Appeals to legislators have not resulted in much action - many have verbally expressed their support for her efforts to have her husband released and the situation addressed by the appropriate agencies yet none have come forward to act on this case.
Dr. Iannuccilli-Mathew states, "If this is how the government treats their begging and pleading citizen, then I do question the government’s integrity, honesty and compassion, especially for our U.S. troops in Iraq. Do we really need to be there? Does the government care about its citizens? Does it really 'trust in god'?"
Members of the public who wish to take action to support efforts to free her husband and help maintain her citizenship are asked to contact Dr.Iannuccilli-Mathew directly at 401-228-6013 or to e-mail arianna@ups2.com.
