WASHINGTON, May 18, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- TASER International, Inc. , a market leader in advanced electronic control devices, released the following News Alert:

According to news reports from the Detroit Free Press, a North Carolina man was arrested last Tuesday after attempting to kill his estranged wife, a 39-year-old Flint woman, and leading police on an eight mile, high-speed chase. Police said that the accused, a 37-year-old unidentified man, was witnessed choking and beating a woman on U.S. 23 near M59 in Hartland Township. A motorist, who called 911, reported seeing the man drag and shove the woman into a 1998 Dodge minivan and then drive off. Police were able to stop the vehicle but the man refused to get out and instead drove at two officers who were approaching the minivan, nearly hitting them.

The man led state police on a high-speed chase that ended after officers applied spiked sticks to the road, puncturing the minivan's tires. The man then climbed into the back of the van, refusing to let go of the woman. Officers used a TASER device to subdue him and release the woman, who was treated by Livingston County paramedics.

The man is expected to be arraigned on charges ranging from attempted murder to felonious assault with a motor vehicle. He is being held in the Livingston County Jail in Howell.
