SGI and Mitrionics Announce Joint FPGA Supercomputing Workshop Summer Tour in the U.S. and EU
Audience of International Researchers & Scientists Will Develop and Run Applications on the SGI RASC RC100 and Mitrion Virtual Processor
Mitrionics(TM), Inc., the technology leader
in programming FPGAs (Field
Programmable Gate Arrays) for supercomputing software acceleration, and
Silicon Graphics (OTC: SGID) announce their joint "FPGA Supercomputing
Workshop Summer Tour" starting in Paris, France on May 23-24. During the
months of May, June and July, SGI and Mitrionics will host a series of
workshops in the U.S. and Europe for scientists, researchers, and software
developers to receive hands-on training in the software-centric Mitrion-C
programming language for FPGAs. The workshops are free of charge and will
cover a broad range of introductory-to-advanced topics designed to provide
attendees with both a theoretical and working knowledge of how to develop
and implement FPGA Supercomputing applications, utilizing the SGI®
RASC(TM) RC100 computation blade and the
Mitrion(TM) Platform.
The agenda includes topics such as; "Programming the SGI RASC with
Mitrion-C," "Mitrion-C Background Quick Walkthrough: A RASC Program,"
"Getting to Know the Mitrion SDK and Programming in Mitrion-C." Tutors at
the workshops are senior development and supercomputing professionals from
both SGI and Mitrionics. More information about the upcoming events and
how to register can be found at:
http://www.mitrionics.com/summertour2006.shtml
"The SGI and Mitrionics workshops are designed to make the complex simple
-- giving scientists, researchers and software developers first-hand
experience on the ease-of-use of our solution and getting them excited
about developing applications never before imagined," said Bill Mannel,
Director of Systems Marketing, SGI. "Collaborative development with
Mitrionics has enabled SGI to provide an FPGA solution that eases the
implementation of FPGA technology, making dramatic application performance
enhancements available to more users than ever before."
"We're excited at the growing number of internationally renowned
organizations, scientists and researchers participating in our workshops to
learn how to develop their own FPGA Supercomputing applications," stated
Anders Dellson, CEO of Mitrionics, Inc. "Our partnership and workshops
with SGI represent an important step in accelerating the growth of this
promising new field by providing direct education and experience to the key
influencers and developers in the supercomputing community."

SGI and Mitrionics are the technology leaders in FPGA Supercomputing --
an exciting new technology that enables processor performance
acceleration 10x to 100x greater than traditional processors. The
Mitrion Platform with the Mitrion Virtual Processor, in conjunction
with the SGI RASC RC100 and Xilinx Virtex-4 FPGAs, represent an ideal
solution for software developers, scientists, and researchers within
areas such as bioinformatics, oil and gas, imaging and financial
industries. The workshop in Paris will give the attendees a hands-on
experience of faster performance in their supercomputing applications
and drastically reduced lead time for application development.
About the SGI RASC RC100
Based on SGI's groundbreaking RASC (Reconfigurable Application-Specific
Computing) technology, the new RC100 blade is designed for customers whose
applications spend most of their time working on a set of specific routines
or algorithms. By accelerating those routines, RASC technology can
dramatically improve the performance of the overall application.
Designed for use with award-winning SGI® Altix® servers, SGI RASC RC100
blade can be programmed at the customer's site to accelerate
mission-critical, high-performance computing (HPC) applications in oil and
gas exploration, defense and intelligence, bioinformatics, medical imaging,
and broadcast media.
The Mitrion Platform - Rapid Processor Programming for FPGA Supercomputing
Applications
The Mitrion Virtual Processor in the FPGA makes it possible to program a
processor instead of designing a circuit. and Mitrion Software Development
Kit provide a unique solution that makes it possible to develop
supercomputing applications for FPGAs on a true software level. This
dramatically reduces the total cost for FPGA-based software acceleration,
and more importantly, enables the whole supercomputing industry to benefit
from FPGAs.
