Force shaping board results to be released May 10

Lieutenants eligible for the 2006 Force Shaping Board will be notified personally of their retention status by their senior rater on May 10.

The force shaping board, which convened at the Air Force Personnel Center here April 10, selected 1,240 out of 2,083 officers in the 2002 and 2003 accession year groups for retention.

Officers deployed on the release date will be notified by either their deployed commander or their home-station senior rater.

Officers not selected for retention will be separated no later than Sept. 29 but are still eligible to apply for the Palace Chase or the Blue to Green programs.

Palace Chase applicants accepted into the Guard or Reserve may avoid a break in service if they apply by Aug. 1. The Blue to Green program offers eligible officers the opportunity to transfer to the Army, but applicants must submit their packages by June 15.

Those who wish to continue to serve, but not in uniform, may apply for civil service employment. Interested officers should visit the Office of Personnel Management Web site at www.usajobs.opm.gov for more information.

All officers not selected for retention will receive an information package explaining their entitlements, such as separation pay and re-enlistment entitlements (for those previously enlisted officers).

Officers are entitled to post-separation benefits and services such as transitional healthcare coverage for 180 days, permissive temporary duty and an expanded opportunity to participate in the Montgomery GI Bill. Officers should contact their base family support centers for more detailed information regarding these benefits.

Officers leaving the service are encouraged to take advantage of the transition resources available through their family support center.
