New Fiction Publishing Announces Release Of Chasing The Wish: Book One
Comic book breaks new ground in use of interactive online content
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (EWORLDWIRE) May 2, 2006
What if the fictional characters of a story suddenly began to contact the reader through phone calls, e-mails, instant messages and even at actual real world meetings? What if the characters presented themselves as real and involved the reader in their lives and struggles? What if the reader could actually change the world in which the character lived? What if the reader could find items that were important to the characters and vital to the things they were trying to achieve?
Would it still be just a story? Or would it become something more?
Dave Szulborski, author, game and puzzle designer and pioneer in the exciting new field of alternate reality gaming, and New Fiction Publishing today announced the release of Chasing The Wish: Book One, the first of a three issue graphic novel series based on Szulborski's highly successful and critically acclaimed immersive campaign from 2003 by the same name.
As one of the most successful independent alternate reality games ever, Chasing The Wish sets new standards for realism, creativity, interactivity and immersion in the developing genre of online entertainment. The game lasted six months and incorporated three dozen fictional Web sites, as well as dozens of real world items, interactions and events. Throughout the campaign, over 10,000 people were attracted to and played the game. Chasing The Wish received international press coverage in magazines, newspapers and television.
Now, in 2006, with a pre-existing fan base in the thousands, and hundreds of thousands of people recently exposed to the concept of alternate reality games through the highly visible projects for Audi, GM, Microsoft and a forthcoming one for ABC’s hit television show LOST, the Chasing The Wish comic book stands poised to do the same thing for the comic book world that the original game did for ARGs three years ago.
The comic book will be supported by and fully integrated with the most extensive and interactive online presence ever created for a comic book project, the alternate reality game sequel to Chasing The Wish, will feature multiple fictional Web sites, completely interactive and responsive characters, real world events and items created especially for the game.
The script is by Jason Stackhouse, adapted from the original story and notes of Szulborski, with creative direction and coloring by James Curcio, and artwork by comic veteran P. Emerson Williams. The book will be released for purchase online on May 8, 2006, at a retail price of $8. It will feature 48 pages of full color interior art and covers on glossy paper. The alternate reality game is set to begin shortly after the comic book release. Chasing The Wish Book One is scheduled to be released in comic and regular book stores in June of 2006.
