PISA Security Launches Data-Security Software for Hospitality Industry to Stem Identity Theft
Suite of Software Products and Consulting Services Gives Hoteliers Ways to Avert Information-Security Breaches and Prevent Identity Theft of Confidential Employee and Guest Data
The privacy of guest data at many hotels
is under attack, according to the founders of PISA Security Inc., who today
introduced a suite of software and consulting services to give the
hospitality industry the ability to monitor data security and close gaps
that leave them vulnerable to identity theft.
Hotel, resort and timeshare operators have traditionally been concerned
about the physical security of their guests. Now, they must worry about the
"virtual" security of hotel records, which contain sensitive employee and
guest data, including social security numbers and credit card information.
However, due to increasing demand to assist hotel guests and employees with
their technology questions, hospitality-industry IT professionals cite lack
of time and staff resources to monitor, prevent and correct data-security
and identity breaches.
"2005 was the worst year on record for security breaches and identify
theft," said Marcus Bruninghaus, co-founder and chief executive officer,
PISA Security. "The hospitality industry was not immune to this trend, with
some companies reporting as many as 250,000 customer records lost. Many
hotel operators are finding that their information-technology resources
can't keep up with the rise of identity fraud and other online security
breaches. We created PISA Security to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our
IT colleagues at hotels to identify and correct gaps in their network
security set up."
PISA Security's suite of products and services for hotels, resorts and
timeshare properties include network intrusion-detection and -protection
software as well as information security awareness training.
-- PisaProtect(TM) combines client and network security to deliver
multilayer network protection.
-- PisaDefend(TM) works as a two-stage process. In stage one, PISA
Security engineers establish a baseline by conducting a patch-level audit
of the entire network and reporting any holes that are found. Secure audit
policy settings then are applied as recommended by the nation's top
security institutions. Stage two involves the installation of PISA's
exclusive monitoring device that enables the local hotel IT staff to look
for any unusual activities and monitor the availability of all
applications, computers and network equipment.
-- PisaMind(TM) is a security awareness training program designed to be
seamlessly integrated with a hotel's existing learning management system.
PISA Security will demonstrate its software at the 2006 Hospitality
Industry Technology Exposition and Conference (HITEC) in Minneapolis
from June 19 to 22, 2006.
