Robert Nielsen Named Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Century Aluminum Company
Century Aluminum Company (NASDAQ: CENX)
announced today that Robert R. Nielsen will succeed Gerald J. Kitchen as
executive vice president, general counsel and secretary, effective May 1,
2006. Mr. Kitchen, who joined the company in 1995 prior to its initial
public offering, will continue to work on special projects for the company.
Mr. Nielsen comes to Century from Tanimura & Antle, Inc., one of America's
largest privately held agribusiness companies, where he served as general
counsel and corporate secretary since 1993. Prior to this he served as a
director and partner with the law firm of Howard, Rice, Nemerovsky, Canady,
Falk & Rabkin. Earlier, he held the position of general counsel with the
food and consumer products company Castle & Cooke.
Mr. Nielsen holds an undergraduate degree from Stanford University and a
J.D. from Columbia Law School.

Century is the third largest producer of primary aluminum in North America,
behind Alcoa and Alcan. In 2005 the company produced approximately 616,000
metric tonnes and had net sales of approximately $1.13 billion. Century's
primary aluminum plants are located in West Virginia, Kentucky, South
Carolina and Iceland. An expansion of the Iceland plant, which will be
completed during 2006, will bring the company's total production capacity
to 745,000 metric tonnes. Century also owns 50 percent interests in an
alumina plant in Louisiana and a bauxite mine in Jamaica. Century's
corporate offices are located in Monterey, California.
