Somerset Entertainment Income Fund (TSX:SOM.UN) -
Fisher-Price, Inc., the worldwide leader in infant and preschool toys has partnered with Somerset Entertainment Ltd., the leading producer and distributor of specialty music sold through non-traditional retailers, to market and distribute season 2 DVD titles of the popular Little People® video series in the U.S. and Canada.
Following on Somerset Entertainment's success as producer and distributor of the Fisher-Price music line, which combines the vocals of Fisher-Price's classic Little People characters with engaging and entertaining music, Somerset Entertainment will launch the video series with 5 DVD titles this spring.
"We have been exploring opportunities in video licensing for some time and are pleased to be entering the market with such a major brand," said Andy Burgess, CEO Somerset Entertainment. "Given the success we have had since originally partnering with Fisher-Price and the $16 billion DVD market in the U.S. last year, this is a viable growth opportunity for both of our businesses."
The stop motion videos, feature toddlers' favorite Little People characters as they explore the world around them. Each DVD offers ten captivating adventures designed to introduce children to shapes and colours, teach valuable life lessons and discover their creativity. Neighbourhood Adventures and Animals & Friends are the first DVD's set to be released this month in Canada, with 3 new titles to be released next month in the U.S.
The DVD's will be displayed alongside the popular Fisher-Price music line in major retailers. To support this initiative, Somerset is developing a new video interactive display that will allow consumers to sample video and music clips from the full Fisher-Price line.
"The ability to sample music has been core to our strategy, and we have seen the impact this has on generating increased sales," said Ed Bonner, Vice-President Marketing, Somerset Entertainment, "continuing to build on this key strategy is integral to our future growth."
"We are pleased to be expanding our relationship with Somerset Entertainment" said Mark Weppner, Director of Licensing, Fisher-Price, "Somerset has done a tremendous job over the past 4 years with our music line and we look forward to seeing the same positive results with our DVD line."
Since 2002, Somerset Entertainment has developed and distributed over 25 titles in the Fisher-Price music line and sold over 4 million units. Three of the albums have achieved Gold status in Canada, and recently, Cantemos en Espanol became the first children's album to achieve Latin Gold (Disco d'Oro) status in the United States.
