Insurgent Killed, Four Suspects Captured Near Kirkuk
KIRKUK, Iraq - Bastogne Soldiers from the 1st Brigade Combat Team (BCT), 101st Airborne Division, killed one insurgent and detained four suspects during combined combat operations in and around Kirkuk, Iraq, April 8.
Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment of the 1st BCT were on a combat patrol when a man threw an anti-tank hand grenade at the passing vehicles. After positively identifying who threw the grenade, the Soldiers shot and killed the terrorist.
In a related incident, Iraqi Soldiers from the 5th Iraqi Army Battalion, supervised and supported by Coalition Forces, conducted a cordon and search in the village of Mahmoodiya, southwest of Kirkuk, looking for four suspects wanted for emplacing improvised explosive devices.
All four suspected terrorists were detained along with a variety of IED-making materials and weapons, as well as three certificates bearing the image of Saddam Hussein.
Bastogne Soldiers, working alongside Soldiers of the Iraqi Army, continue to kill and capture terrorists in northern Iraq. These successes are improving security for residents of the region.
