DogFriendly.com (http://www.dogfriendly.com) announced its 2006 list of the Top 10 dog-friendly vacation destination cities in North America. DogFriendly.com compiles this list annually for people who want to take their dogs with them on vacation. The rankings are determined by DogFriendly.com researchers and take into account the number and quality of dog-friendly accommodations, transportation, beaches, parks, attractions, stores, dining and other things to do with your dog.

1. Vancouver -- Stroll and shop from Historic Gastown to Granville Island. Take your dog for a ferry ride and visit nearby Victoria and beautiful Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island.

2. San Francisco -- Many dog-friendly hotels to choose from. Ride the cable cars and street cars with leashed dogs, stroll through the Wharf area. Dog-friendly beaches, parks and outdoor dining.

3. Chicago -- Take a boat tour on the Chicago River or Lake Michigan, visit Navy Pier and Buckingham Fountain. Walk the 18-mile Lakefront Trail with your leashed pup.

4. Boston -- Take the Boston T with your leashed dog. Visit Historical sites -- walk the Freedom Trail, take a ferry to Cape Cod or Martha's Vineyard. Visit Salem for spooky fun.

8. Long Beach, CA -- Visit L.A. County's only off-leash dog beach. Catch one of the many annual events such as the Haute Dog Easter Parade. Visit nearby attractions in Orange County and L.A.

9. St. Louis -- Visit the AKC Museum of the Dog, Purina Farms, many local wineries and a riverboat ride. Take a walking tour and visit nearby historical parks throughout Missouri.

10. Northern Virginia -- Cruise the Potomac on a Canine Cruise. Visit outdoor attractions at Mount Vernon and Roosevelt Island. Visit a Doggy Happy Hour in Old Town Alexandria.
