Night Watch: MOGADISHU - "Definite war" is what Mogadishu resident Mahamud Mohamed says is coming to Mogadishu as he and other inhabitants prepare for the resumption of fighting between Islamic militias, who have been imposing Sharia law and a new anti-terror alliance comprised of powerful warlords who may be supported by Washington. Reuters reports that a lot of the city's population is stocking up on food, fortifying their houses and blocking roads as they anticipate the most serious fighting Somalia has seen in years. The fighting intensified last month that resulted in the deaths of 70-90 people as Islamic militias siezed a port in Mogadishu and captured an airstrip. The militias are connected to what I call the Islamic Axis, Tehran-Riyadh, and may even be supporting the pirate attacks against international shipping, as another way of threatening the international economy.

It was only a matter of time that Washington found some warlords they could work with and hopefully reduce Tehran-Riyadh's hold over the capital and population.
