Bush Announces Nomination for Envoy to Australia

Justice's McCallum to be nominated to serve as U.S. ambassador

President Bush will nominate Robert D. McCallum to be the U.S. Ambassador to Australia, the White House announced in a March 10 statement.

McCallum is currently an associate attorney general at the Department of Justice.

As with all ambassadorial nominations, the U.S. Senate must confirm McCallum's nomination.

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate one individual to serve in his Administration:

The President intends to nominate Robert D. McCallum, Jr., of Georgia, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Australia. Mr. McCallum currently serves as Associate Attorney General at the Department of Justice. Prior to this, he served as the Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division. Earlier in his career, he was a Partner at Alston & Bird. Mr. McCallum received his bachelor's degree and JD from Yale Univers ity. He also received a master's degree from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar.
