TCS Awarded Patent for Web Browsing Over Non-IP Based Networks
Patent Discloses Optimized Method for Wireless Device Interface With the Web
TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS)
(NASDAQ: TSYS), a leading provider of mission critical wireless
communications, today announced it has been awarded a patent by the United
States Patent and Trademark Office for its proprietary system and method
for controlling wireless devices' interface with the Internet. The patent
is titled System and Method for Re-Directing Requests from Browsers for
Communication over Non-IP Based Networks. This specialized invention
enables a wireless device equipped with a standard browser to communicate
with the Internet efficiently via a non-Internet Protocol (IP) network.
This approach can reduce the user's transmission costs as well as increase
the perceived bandwidth of the network.
U.S. Patent No. 7,003,571 acknowledges TCS' originality in optimizing
communications over non-IP networks to save bandwidth by using a
connectionless send and receive mechanism. This invention eliminates the
high bandwidth requirements inherently associated with HTTP communications
for wireless connection to the Internet, enabling more users to have fast
access to the Web. Additional performance enhancements are achieved from
the connectionless environment through the use of message segmentation and
reassembly, message retries, and message acknowledgements.
"TCS' leadership in developing this advanced technology in the wireless
arena enables carriers to offer a fast and cost effective browsing
experience to their subscribers," said Maurice B. Tose, Chairman, President
and CEO of TeleCommunication Systems. "The invention improves the
performance of the user's web browsing experience and is useful whenever
bandwidth limitations or efficiency is desired in wireless or wireline
networks."
TCS now holds 41 patents and has over 100 additional patent applications
pending in the United States and jurisdictions throughout the world.
