Rivalry At College Hunks Hauling Junk

A rivalry has erupted between the College Hunks Hauling Junk's Maryland branch and its Virginia Branch. Student employees from colleges in Virginia challenged student employees from colleges in Maryland to a Haul Off.

Marcus Littman, a George Mason student employee, stated that the rivalry began as soon as the separate branches opened. "Ever since there have been two branches, there has been a quiet rivalry," said Littman. "Things really got heated when one day we got to the trucks - they were covered with shaving cream and the University of Maryland Flag was hanging from one of them. It was pretty obvious who had done it.”

After hiding a fish in the cab of one of the Maryland trucks, the Virginia College Junk Team issued a challenge that they could haul more junk per ton than the Maryland Team. Naturally, the Maryland Team accepted the challenge. On average, a truck tends to haul three tons per day - weight is calculated at the local transfer stations.

The tournament will last from March 1, 2006 to September 1, 2006.

Owners Nick Friedman and Omar Soliman have not attempted to quench the competitiveness between the branches; instead, they decided to reward it. The winning team will be given a three night trip to the Bahamas. "Instead of trying to extinguish the rivalry, we decided to throw some gas in the fire by offering the huge bonus," said Friedman.

"As long as it stays within the rules and regulations, I don’t think we will need to put a stop to it," said Soliman. "I am curious to see what new prank the teams will come up with."

Winners will be announced on the company Web site, www.CollegeJunk.Net, on September 1, 2006. The winning team will then be added to the “Hunk Haul of Fame.”
