Infection Prevention Made Easier With Enhanced ChloraPrep(R) Frepp(R) Applicator
Gentle Patient Application Delivered by Innovative Softer Foam Sponge
Medi-Flex, Inc. announced today the development
of a softer foam sponge for its ChloraPrep® Frepp® 1.5 mL single-dose
applicator skin antiseptic. This product enhancement creates an even
gentler application process for patients being prepped for medical
procedures such as IV insertions, blood cultures, and small biopsies.
A leader in infection control products, Medi-Flex continues to raise the
bar for the industry and its own product line. With approximately 30
percent more pores-per-inch, the new foam sponge in the Frepp applicator is
much softer, with the same excellent flow rate, coverage, and effectiveness
healthcare professionals expect from the ChloraPrep Frepp applicator.
Product testing with the new ChloraPrep Frepp applicator reports greater
nurse satisfaction. "Nurses and other healthcare professionals are always
looking for ways to provide better patient care," said James Mitchum,
president and COO of Medi-Flex. "We see this enhancement as particularly
beneficial for the elderly and patients undergoing cancer treatments and
dialysis. These patients' skin can be easily bruised and irritated by the
numerous medical interventions they encounter during the course of their
treatments."
Since the introduction of ChloraPrep in November 2000, millions of
applicators in a variety of sizes have been used in hospitals and
healthcare settings.
The use of ChloraPrep has been clinically proven to significantly reduce
the number of bacteria on intact skin. ChloraPrep is the first 2 percent
chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) and 70 percent isopropyl alcohol (IPA)
patient preoperative skin preparation to meet the Food and Drug
Administration's (FDA) strict clinical requirements for an approval of the
New Drug Application (NDA). Additionally, the persistent activity provided
by 2 percent CHG is highly recommended for use in more than 10
evidence-based guidelines, including guidelines published by the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). ChloraPrep kills more bacteria
than traditional iodophors or alcohol, and provides healthcare
professionals with the utmost confidence when prepping their patients' skin
for small, invasive procedures such as IV insertion.
About ChloraPrep
ChloraPrep's unique formulation is the first-of-its-kind. Because it
combines the CDC recommended percentage of chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG)
and 70 percent isopropyl alcohol (IPA), ChloraPrep exhibits rapid and
persistent bactericidal properties. In clinical trials, ChloraPrep was
found to possess superior immediate, residual, and cumulative antibacterial
activity than the current standard, traditional iodophors, and other
commonly used antiseptics, such as alcohol. While alcohol kills 99.99
percent of bacteria in 30 seconds, clinical studies have shown that CHG
continues to kill bacteria for a minimum of 48 hours. This dual action is
the key to reducing infection-causing bacteria on the skin. ChloraPrep was
first introduced in a unique 3 mL applicator, and since then, Medi-Flex has
developed the Frepp 1.5 mL, Sepp 0.67 mL, Swabstick, 10.5 mL One-Step and
With Tint, and 26 mL With Tint applicators.
