Ulticom Releases Latest Version of IMS-Ready Signalware Diameter
Complete Solution for Service Delivery and Charging Functions
At the 3GSM World
Conference, Ulticom®, Inc. (NASDAQ: ULCM), a leading provider of network
signaling solutions, today announced the release of the latest version of
its IMS-Ready Signalware® Diameter product with extended support for IP
Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) applications. Signalware Diameter is a complete
and easy to use implementation of the Diameter protocol based on the latest
IETF and 3GPP standards for the service delivery and charging functions
within the IMS. Using Signalware Diameter allows developers to gain a
competitive advantage by focusing their efforts on the creation of new and
innovative IMS-based applications while at the same time lowering costs and
decreasing time to market.
Signalware Diameter has been designed to take advantage of the distributed
nature of the IMS and can easily be migrated to a high availability cluster
for those applications that require carrier-grade reliability and
scalability. APIs are provided at both the base protocol and application
level so customers can build their own customized applications or use those
provided with Signalware Diameter to further accelerate time to market.
With this release, developers now have the ability to easily integrate AAA
capabilities within IMS functional elements such as the Home Subscriber
Server (HSS), Call Session Control Function (CSCF), SIP-based application
servers, and OSA Service Capability Servers. Service Management and Billing
Mediation system vendors can also benefit by using Signalware Diameter to
provide a standards-based interface to IMS service delivery and charging
functions.
Signalware Diameter provides comprehensive support for these specific IMS
Diameter interfaces:
-- Sh provides IMS provisioning of subscriber profiles and can be used by
application servers to retrieve updates when subscriber data is changed
-- Cx provides authentication and authorization for IMS services or
secure access to IMS services
-- Ro provides support for real-time charging and prepaid services on IMS
-- Rf supports off-line billing for traditional post-paid billing and
billing mediation between carriers (available May, 2006)
-- Dx and Dh support scalable IMS deployments with multiple HSS databases
(available May, 2006)
IMS offers significant value to service providers since it allows them to
introduce new real-time, multimedia services and provide end users with a
seamless experience across multiple access networks. Diameter is one of
many signaling protocols needed to realize the fixed-mobile converged
services enabled by the IMS. Signalware Diameter is unique in its ability
to be combined with other essential Signalware signaling protocols such as
SIP and SS7 to more broadly address the market and provide interconnection
to existing services and networks.
"The comprehensiveness of the IMS architecture requires that system and
service providers employ an evolutionary development approach to accelerate
delivery schedules and gain competitive advantage," said Osman Duman,
senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Ulticom. "Diameter is
a natural extension to our IMS-Ready Signalware product line and
demonstrates our commitment to offer developers a suite of signaling
solutions that address the varied and staggered migration paths toward
IMS."
