Long Anticipated Movie Produced By Detroit Piston's Dale Davis Finally Debuts

LENEXA, Kan., Feb. 9, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- "Playas Ball," a long-anticipated movie produced by NBA Power Forward Dale Davis's W.A.R. (World Ain't Right) Entertainment, is set to debut at an invitation only VIP party on February 16 in Houston. The movie's premiere event, which takes place just prior to the NBA All-Star Game on Feb.19, will benefit Habitat for Humanity, which in turn will support victims of Hurricane Katrina.

"Playas Ball" is the story of a young star athlete who -- right after signing a major shoe endorsement deal -- is hit with a paternity suit by a woman with whom he has not been involved. The movie's intent is to show the public that, although often envied, professional athletes are frequently exploited.

Produced and completed long before the Kobe Bryant case captured the nation's attention, Dale chose not to capitalize on the situation and temporarily shelved his production at that time out of respect for his fellow NBA player. His dual goals in releasing the film now are to benefit victims of the recent hurricane while sharing a message that is sure to strike a chord with professional athletes and other celebrities.

W.A.R. Entertainment's motion picture division, W.A.R. Motion Pictures, was established by Dale to serve as a powerful communications conduit for the voiceless and marginalized -- in this case, young unassuming athletes who are not accustomed to fame and the avarice it can attract. Dale Davis's central mission is committed to delivering meaningful entertainment content, but more importantly, empowering individuals and communities through awareness of challenging, yet often overlooked, issues.

Davis, chosen by the Indiana Pacers as a first round draft pick in the 1991 NBA Draft, was signed as a free agent by the Detroit Pistons in August of 2005 where he currently plays for the number one NBA team. In his fourteen years with the NBA, Davis has played with the Portland Trail Blazers, the Golden State Warriors and did a second stint with the Pacers before joining the Pistons.

The February 16 movie premiere -- along with the after-screening gala -- will be an invitation only event held at the Houston Edwards Marq*E Cinema, 7620 Katy Freeway. On February 17, the movie will be presented to a public audience at the Houston National Cinemedia Center. Tickets can be purchased through TicketWeb, 866-468-7621 or online at www.ticketweb.com.
