Songwriters Expect Support by Radio Stations to Boost Donations

DALLAS (EWORLDWIRE) Feb 1, 2006

Less than a week after opening their new record label Chart Climber Records, partners Rick Mason and Chad Morrison already had their first release written and recorded. "They Were Not Alone," is a tribute to the 12 West Virginia coal miners who died and the one survivor of the Sago mine disaster on January 2.

Backed by national promotion and publicity the song, recorded by singer-songwriters Greg Guymon and Morris McCann will be simultaneously released to country, Christian and news/talk radio stations today. The goal is to have as many radio stations as possible play the song on Thursday, then direct listeners to a special website (www.sagosong.org) where they can download it for a $1.50 donation.

All of the profits, including 100 percent of the songwriters and producer's royalties go to the Sago Miners Assistance Fund.

"Some of the best session musicians in Nashville are on this song," said Mason, "and the result is a beautifully done musical tribute to the miners and their families."

Singers Greg Guymon and Morris McCann knew from the beginning that this was a project they wanted to do.Rick Mason wrote the first draft of the song after watching on television the tragic news that the miners were indeed, all but one, lost in the explosion.

Mason said the words came quickly. "I had most of the words written in about 45 minutes. Having lost two immediate family members recently, the emotions were pretty close to the surface for me," Mason remembered.
