Crossfire War - TEHRAN WATCH: Middle East Theatre; Damascus - Tehran - Baghdad - Ahmandinejad Receives Representatives of 10 Palestinian Militant Groups - Iraq Shi'ites Win 128 Out of 275 Parliament Seats

Night Watch: DAMASCUS - BAGHDAD - Debka.com reports that Iran President Ahmadinejad has received in Damascus the representatives of 10 Palestinian militant groups. I assume these are the same ones Syria President Bashar al-Assad met with last year and told them they should close ranks. Hamas has a lot of support in Damascus and that is perhaps Hamas' base. [Debka]

When Israel launches its first pre-emptive strikes, in the very near future, that will probably be their first target. As mentioned on crossfirewar.com regularly, the main threat to Israel is from Damascus, but Tehran and other Islamic capitals, Riyadh for example, will also be seen doing something as a symbolic military gesture of support for Palestinian people knowing that it will be very popular all over the Islamic world, the Islamic street.

Debka also reports that the final election results from Iraq's December election are now in. The Iraq Shi'ites have won 128 out of 275 Parliament seats which is not enough to form an absolute majority. They will have to form a coalition government in order to preside. Tehran is not at all surprised at this. They announced more than a year ago they knew Iraq would never have a religious, theocratic government like Iran but Tehran is an expert at working with diverse peoples who share the same regional - international view.

The next largest single bloc of seats will be controlled by Kurdish representatives-53, the Sunni Arab bloc-44 and former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi's Shi'ite - Sunni secular list - 25. Every group will have an important position in the government. Chances are excellent for this averting an all out civil war.

In the meantime as long as the lost alliance remains an occupier violence will continue and Tehran wants the occupation to remain since Iraq was always intended to be a trap, a foreign policy wasteland for the West and Russia. For obvious reasons Moscow and most Western capitals realized it before Saddam's removal. They knew of the corporate engineering services and their decision making influence with London-Washington and their arrangements with Tehran that delayed his overthrow until 2003 instead of 1991. A nail in their vague, deluded and confused foreign policy coffin.
