Polish Soldiers Support Iraqi Farmers
Polish soldiers from MultiNational Division Central-South helped Iraqi farmers from Diwaniyah province in the beginning of a new season. The soldiers completed the project to equip farmers with tractors, agriculture equipment and irrigation pumps. They also provided 150 tons of seeds. In the beginning of the new year, about 3,500 Iraqi farmer families received help from Polish soldiers.
A new agriculture season has just begun in Iraq. In Diwaniyah province 3500 farmer families belong to the Agriculture Association. They have 700 hectares of arable land. But they could effectively use only about 150 hectares of the land. They did not have enough seeds and equipment to cultivate all 700 hectares. Polish soldiers organized the project to help them.
The project included providing six tractors, agriculture equipment, truck (10 tons capacity), 10 irrigation pumps, and 150 tons of seeds (barley and wheat). Thanks to this project the farmers can cultivate all 700 hectares area of arable land. The project was completed in the first days of January 2006.
Since the beginning of mission in Iraq Multinational Division Central South completed 40 agricultural projects worth 1,9 million dollars.
