Detainee dies at Abu Ghraib
BAGHDAD , Iraq - A 56-year-old male security detainee at Abu Ghraib died Jan. 7 at 11:23 a.m. as a result of complications from an apparent stroke.
The detainee was admitted to Task Force 344th MED, at Abu Ghraib, Dec. 30 and was being treated for an irregular heartbeat. An attending physician pronounced him dead after he failed to respond to aggressive medical treatment.
The military Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the incident, which is standard procedure after any detainee death.
The detainee's remains will be transferred to the family upon completion of an autopsy. This is standing procedure for all detainees who die while in custody of the Multi-National Force.
