Tips From Residents Lead to Weapons Caches in Mosul, Samarra
TIKRIT, Iraq - Tips from concerned citizens led to the discovery of two small weapons caches over the past several days in northern Iraq.
Soldiers from the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team seized a mortar round and three detonating fuses after a local civilian led them to a cache in Mosul Monday afternoon.
Iraqi Soldiers seized 20 tank rounds, two pistols, a rocket-propelled grenade and 13 AK-47 assault rifle magazines with 100 rounds near Samarra Tuesday after another tip.
Information from concerned citizens has helped Iraqi and U.S. forces discover numerous bombs and weapons caches throughout the area.
