India Encroaching on Nepalese Territory
By Sudha
India has encroached upon Nepalese territory in the bordering area of Bhajani and Lalbojhi VDCs of Kailali in western Nepal. The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has stretched the Indian boundary up to around three hundred Bighahs further into the Nepalese territory in the area.
The BSF stationed at the Indian city of Ratna Nagar had taken a large area of Kauwakheda of Lalbajhi VDC in Nepal in the name of ascertaining the Dasgaja, the area that separates the two countries. The BSF also destroyed crops planted in the area in the process. Over two-dozen families, including Ratan Saud, Prata Saud, Bir Singh Saud, Narjit Saud, Budhe Saud, Naula Budha and Bhakta Bahadur Budha, have gone landless following the move of the BSF.
India has moved around 60 feet north into Nepalese territory in the process of making sub pillars at Kauwakheda.
Local residents say pillar number 110, which plays a crucial role in ascertaining the boundary of both countries, was situated north to Mohana River. But a heavy flood in 1985 inundated the pillar area, following which India moved 50-60 feet towards Nepal and erected the pillar where it still stands.
