Hot Investment Areas in Network Security Market: Handheld Security, Content Security, IPS, NAC
As hackers continue to invent new ways to
attack corporate networks, network security vendors continue to invent new
and better ways to protect them, and some of these innovations will no
doubt push the lucrative security market even higher.
The results of a new study from Infonetics Research, User Plans for
Security Products and Services: North America 2005, point to four stand-out
technologies expected to reap large rewards for successful vendors.
"First, there's a real need for enterprise-class security for handheld
devices, especially wireless client devices such as WiFi VoIP handsets,"
said Jeff Wilson, principal analyst at Infonetics Research and author of
the study. "Second, as the next step in perimeter security, network IPS is
beginning to make the transition from niche security technology to core
network infrastructure. Third, any vendor that can successfully pull off
network access control will be sitting pretty in the security market. And
finally, enterprises are fed up with viruses, spyware, and malware, and are
willing to make significant investments to put a stop to them."
Trends in the North American security market:
-- Software, hardware appliances, and secure routers are the preferred
network security form factors for most respondents in the study, both now
and in 2007, with secure routers showing the most growth in use
-- 48% of respondents have already purchased wireless LAN security
products, and 29% will purchase or are considering purchasing wireless LAN
security
-- Blocking viruses and the fear of being hacked by outsiders are the
leading factors pushing respondents to buy security products and services
-- Increased service reliability is the most important payback
respondents expect from managed security services, followed by allowing the
organization to focus on core competencies, access to more advanced
technology, and access to better expertise
Infonetics' study examines end-user security requirements and preferences
for network security and provides analysis on important trends and a clear
picture of security plans at small, medium, and large North American
organizations, including key vertical markets.
