Night Watch: CAIRO - Despite the arrests of hundreds of members the Muslim Brotherhood had taken a quarter of the seats in the current Egyptian elections. Their gains have threatened the hold of the established party, the National Democratic Party, the party of President Hosni Mubarak. The Brotherhood has also taken seats from various liberal and leftist parties. [Debka]

Corruption is their biggest campaigner. There are two more election rounds to go on successive Saturdays, the last one being Dec. 7. President Mubarak has just cancelled a trip to attend a summit sponsored by the EU in Barcelona.
