Jivin' Jones Irish Rock Festival Returns To Connolly's In New York City On Friday Dec. 2, 2005
Celebrating Its One-Year Anniversary
NEW YORK (EWORLDWIRE) Nov 28, 2005
On Friday, December 2, at 9 p.m., Jivin' Jones Records presents the Jivin' Jones Irish Rock Festival music series, featuring The Kissers, The Screaming Orphans, Ceann na Caca and Icewagon Flu.
The Jivin' Jones Irish Rock Festival was founded in December 2004 with inaugural events in Hoboken, N.J. and New York. It was designed to showcase the disparate styles of Irish rock music developing across the globe for more than a decade. The festival has featured bands such as the The Prodigals, Neck, Icewagon Flu, The Ruffians, The McCabes, Jackdaw and The Peelers. In addition, the Irish Rock Festival has traveled to Boston and will be in Buffalo, N.Y., Baltimore and Madison, Wis. in the early part of 2006.
The Festival has a permanent home at Connolly's, 121 West 45th Street, New York (the home of Black '47) where it is a regular music series.
December's installment features:
The Kissers - Hailing from Madison, Wis. the Kissers run the musical gamut from political satirists to social commentators. They play a blend of traditional Irish music and American roots rock complete with accordion, fiddle and banjo. "We like to show people that you can care about serious things and have a good time in the process," said bassist/vocalist Ken Fitzsimmons.
The Screaming Orphans - The multi-instrumental Diver sisters from County Donegal have traveled the world with Sinead O'Connor, recorded with Joni Mitchell and The Chieftans, and made appearances on the David Letterman Show. The band's talents for songwriting draws on a diverse set of influences with a strong focus on melody-driven songs.
Ceann Na Caca - This Pittsburgh outfit has been described by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as "They Might Be Giants drunk on Guinness." Their latest release Almost Irish pokes fun at the all too popular theme in Irish music of Americans pretending to be Irish, which supports their self-described "Yankee Drinking Music" sound.
Icewagon Flu - The band continues to blur the lines between Celtic-Americana rock and intellectual musical mischief with mandolin, tin whistles, kazoos, drums and some very witty and genre defying song writing. Described as one part XTC and one part Mr. Bungle with an inner Willie Nelson, Time Out NY has hailed them as "the kings of nerd rock international."
