Three dozen Maoist terrorists, including area commander of the Nawalparasi district, announced they have left the terrorist group to lead normal and free lives. They said they had denounced the group, as it was involved in terror, oppression and murder of innocent people. They have appealed to journalists and human rights activists to help them surrender to the administration.

Those who have announced their surrender, include so-called area commander Pramod Thapa, section commanders Roshan Chaudhary, Lal Chaudhary and Dharma Chaudhary.

According to the district administration, 60 Maoists have so far left the terrorist outfit to lead normal lives.

Battalion commander of the local Aridaman battalion of the RNA Jit Bahadur Gurung said that the terrorist activities had decreased in the district because of the strong security arrangement.

Meanwhile, a 70-year-old woman, Ram Badan Chamar of Sanai VDC of Nawwalparasi was hacked to death in her sleep Tuesday night. According to the district police office, two armed persons carried out the murder and the local people suspect they were Maoist terrorists.
