Axolotl Enables Hunter Laboratories to Participate in California RHIO

Hunter Laboratories, the largest locally owned and operated clinical reference laboratory in northern California, recently began participation in the Santa Cruz County RHIO. Within 30 days, Hunter Labs was integrated into the community and delivering results electronically via Axolotl's Elysium software. All of the 600 Elysium EMR users in Santa Cruz County are now able to receive Hunter Lab results, along with other clinical data.

"We pride ourselves on the fastest turnaround time in the industry. With Elysium, over 98% of chemistry, immunology, hematology, coagulation and preliminary microbiology lab tests ordered will be delivered before the physician gets to work the next morning," says Chris Riedel, CEO of Hunter Labs. "With one click, physicians view critical and abnormal reports and get up to the minute status information on preliminary results. Hunter's mission is to consistently deliver the best service in the clinical laboratory industry, and we are very excited to be using Elysium to further improve our service, and ultimately, patient care."

Elysium connects health care institutions and their physician customers by fully automating health information exchange and the distribution of lab and radiology results, transcriptions and registration data. Clinical reports are automatically processed and sent electronically to Axolotl's Elysium EMR or third party EMRs. For physicians who still operate with paper records, reports are sent via fax, or sorted and batch printed saving administrative time and money on postage and couriers.

Hunter has 22 area satellite patient service centers, which draw and collect lab samples. With Elysium, patients will benefit from immediate availability of their lab results, which are delivered electronically to the doctors as soon as they are completed. Once the electronic lab results are received, they are integrated into the patient's electronic medical record, providing a complete view of all past medical history, which will aid in treatment collaboration.

"We are delighted to be working with Hunter Labs to provide electronic lab result delivery," reported Glenn Keet, vice president of business development at Axolotl. "Reference lab data is an essential component of a patient's health record, and automating its placement in the physician's EMR speeds clinical decisions."
