Crossfire War: Muzaffarabad - Mobile Phone Calls Traced

Night Watch: MUZAFFARABAD - New Delhi's investigation into the explosions has led them to concentrate on mobile phone calls traced from New Delhi, after the third blast in Govindpuri, in south New Delhi to Srinagar, the capital of India controlled Kashmir. [Rediff.com]

From Srinagar the call traces to Muzaffarabad in Pakistan controlled Kashmir, right on the border with Pakistan and just 50 miles northeast of Pakistan's capital Islamabad.

New Delhi was also called from Sahanranpur in Western Uttar Pradash, 100 miles north of New Delhi and those calls were also returned.

New Delhi suspects that an Islamic agent in Muzaffarabad controlled the operation using four terrorists to place the explosives. India is now assuming that the primary group responsible is Lashkar-e-Tayiba, though they continue to deny a role in the attacks, which have been claimed by Inquilab (Revolution).

New Delhi suspects that one of the commanders of Laskar-e-Tayiba is also involved. The elusive individual is Salar alias Afaq and is constantly on the move between Shaharanpur and Hyderabad in south central India.

Diplomatic protests may not be enough to satisfy New Delhi. I suspect that when the investigation is completed and the findings released to the government, India may then decide, if not already, on the appropriate military response, which could mean an attack on bases Islamic fighters use to infiltrate Indian controlled Kashmir.

New Delhi has often complained about them and this could be the attack that was deliberately planned by Tehran-Islamabad to force New Delhi to do just that. Pakistan has said all along if India ever attacks those bases they will be forced to respond.

Fortunately not all bombs and missiles are going to work. There is no such thing as a perfect weapon. Some will miss, others will be duds. Even a conventional bomb or shell can be a dud. Nothing works as well as advertised.

Some of course will work.
