Update to Previous Release, Two Additional II MEF Marines Killed in Action

CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq - Two Marines assigned to Regimental Combat Team 8, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), were killed in action while conducting combat operations against the enemy when their vehicle was attacked with an improvised explosive device near al Amariyah on Oct. 21.

These two Marines are in addition to those announced in Two Marines Killed by IED Near al Amariyah (Combined Press Information Center press release #A051022e, Oct. 22). Due to the circumstances of the incident, positive identification could not be made in time for earlier reporting. The attack killed a total of four service members.

In addition, the initial release erroneously states that two Marines had died. Further review shows that they were a Marine and a Sailor.

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin and release by the Department of Defense.
