Major Paris City Bus Contract for Scania

  Share With Friends

SODERTALJE, Sweden, Oct. 24, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- In the face of fierce competition, Scania has secured its biggest-ever order for city buses in France. The customer is RATP, the major Parisian public transport operator, which has placed an initial order for 125 Scania OmniCity low-floor buses, with an option to purchase a further 175 vehicles of the same type.

"This is a prestigious order that reinforces our standing in the French city bus market," comments Philippe Behaegel, head of Scania's city bus business at the company's subsidiary, Scania France. As the leading provider of city bus services in Paris, with a fleet of over 4,000 buses, RATP chose the Scania OmniCity for its outstanding fuel economy. All of the new buses will be powered by Scania's new 9-litre Euro 4 engine with EGR technology.

EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) is the system chosen by Scania to cut emissions from its bus engines to comply with Euro 4 and, in time, with Euro 5 standards. Offering high environmental performance and operating economy, with Scania EGR, the operator is spared the effort of handling additives and extra tanks on-board. An EGR vehicle is fuelled with diesel only.

Scheduled for delivery mainly in 2006 and 2007, the buses will be built at the wholly owned assembly plant of Scania's subsidiary Scania Omni, in Poland.
