Crossfire War: British Turning Basra Over to Islamic Militias

  Share With Friends

By

Night Watch: BASRA - Observers here have noted that the British stand by, idly, impotent, as Islamic fundamentalists, directly connected to Tehran, take control over the city.

Sharia law has been imposed by the Shia militias and they have killed three female students, of Basra University, who failed to dress in Islamic clothing, the black abaya and hijab. Professor Adel al-Thamary, one of the few who was willing to speak publicly, and allow his name to be used admittted, that under Saddam things were actually better. Today people can be killed in broad daylight at any time.

Because of the new explosive used by insurgents and provided by Iran's Revolutionary Guards, effective against armor, British units, whenever possible, travel by helicopter. Their commanders in the area hope the institution of a stable government enables them to leave Iraq but according to a couple of knowledgeable observers, that is a false hope.

They both indicate that what the world should expect is what both London and Washington, the lost alliance, fear the most, an Islamic government, on the order of Tehran and another base for fundamentalist activity.

One of the observers is a Saudi official who stated, "The constitution will give Iran, or pro-Iranian Iraqis an open hand in seven provinces in the south, to bring them together into an autonomy, which will create a Shia republic."

The other telling observation comes from interim Prime Minister and Shia, Iyad Allawi who said, "Religious rule would cast Iraq into problems with a beginning but no end. It will not stop at the borders of Iraq. It will spread. The battles and problems and secret movements and chaos would prevail in the entire region."

Nothing would please the Council of Guardians more, the secret movements will be no secret to them since they would have funded and armed them as they have been doing since the U. S. led occupation of Iraq's economy began with Saddam Hussein's overthrow. The situation in Iraq is providing the greatest vehicle for the spread of Islamic fundamentalism, what Tehran sees as the true Islam, since the Khomeini revolution of 1979. The Council of Guardians expect a lot of martyrdom to follow as Iraq is used as another base for Islam to attack the world around them.

This is why Washington is not that eager to see Syria's President Bashar al-Assad replaced because a fundamentalist regime, even more hostile to the West than Assad, could follow. But what Washington may not realize, or refuse to believe is the extent to which Assad is working with Iran, whose lead he has been following and I assume believes will enable Syria to regain the Golan Heights.
