Cinderella Leads Technical Revolution in Bed & Bath
WestPoint Home's Cinderella Comforter Is First of Many Home Textiles Products That Will Utilize Breakthrough 'Thinking Ink' Interactive Printed Technology
A trio of Cinderella comforters marks the
first home textiles use of a new technology that promises to change bed and
bath products forever.
In an exclusive strategic partnership, WestPoint Home Inc., America's
largest manufacturer of fashion bed and bath products, has teamed with
T-INK Inc. to produce innovative, interactive products using patented
"thinking ink" technology. T-INK(TM) provides printed electronic circuitry
-- including switches, wire, buttons, speakers, lights and batteries -- to
power textile products. The ink can be printed in any color (including
clear); is flexible, washable and non-toxic; and withstands bending and
washing.

The Cinderella products use a patented conductive fiber that, when touched,
completes the circuit to activate three sets of lights and a "magical
swoosh" sound. Three versions of the Cinderella comforter hit Sears,
JCPenney (catalog and Internet only), Mervyns and Wal-Mart this month, with
MSRPs ranging from $59.99 to $119.99.
"Cinderella is the tip of the iceberg," explained Steve Hoffman, vice
president, marketing services and licenses, WestPoint Home. "The juvenile
market is just an entry point for this extraordinary new technology that
will ultimately impact everyone of any age. What if your sheets could turn
on a light without a switch? What if your pillows could talk? What if your
shower curtain could play music?"
"T-INK is tremendously excited by our relationship with WestPoint Home and
its unique vision on the many applications of T-INK technology within the
bath and bedding industry," stated Andrew Ferber, chairman,
T-INK. "With T-INK's technology already taking hold in fast food, smart
packaging, social expressions and
in-store media markets, having WestPoint Home leading us into the world of
smart textiles is the perfect marriage of a great partner and great
technology coming together to create the next generation of interactive
home products."
At Spring 2006 home market this month, WestPoint Home will introduce items
such a pillowcase that remotely controls an MP3 player; a silk coverlet
with sound, aromatherapy and massage capabilities; and a
motion-activated mood-light bed skirt.
