m2any Is Buying AudioID Technology for Music Recognition of Fraunhofer

With the exclusive purchase of Fraunhofer technology m2any is fast becoming an international technology leader in the area of identification of multimedia content. To improve upon the market position a long-term cooperation for business development has been agreed. AudioID recognises individual music files and can even differentiate between various versions of the same song: Computer and mobile devices become real music experts.

AudioID is part of the established MPEG-7 audio standards and, unlike proprietary solutions, is creating a basis for establishing itself as the industry standard. Global and platform-independent compatibility is provided thanks to exact specification. Without being bound to a specific tagging format like, for example, CD text, ID3 tags or audio formats, AudioID enables identification and management of audio contents and linkage to the metadata.

Implementation for end-users and the industry

The areas of application of AudioID are both attractive and manifold: With its Mobile Music Finder m2any provides technology which enables recognition using any standard mobile phone. "If you're listening to a song, you can find out on demand who the artist is via SMS and where to download the song," explains m2any's managing director Matthias Glatschke. The ability to differentiate between speech and music makes the technology especially suited to fully automatic broadcast logging. This allows for safeguarding royalty payments for played material and a statistical analysis of programs for individual track compilation or chart analysis. Even the largest audio archives can be classified and the respective metadata can be categorised and revised. AudioID also enables searching for specific contents on the Internet. Glatschke: "Current limitations to file names and subjectively assigned keywords will soon become a thing of the past."

Scaleable, robust and reliable

AudioID, developed by the inventors of the MP3 format, is resistant to changes in the output material like distortions or equalizations of acoustic transmissions and coding. Similar to the human cognitive ability, which, even with reduced signal quality, is astonishingly precise, the system proves itself to be quite resistant to strong acoustic distortions.

Stronger interconnection

The development department of m2any, in cooperation with the know-how of Fraunhofer, has established that technological leadership is to be further enhanced. The next step to follow is embedding the technology as an integral component, for example, of MP3 players, mobile phones, home entertainment products and car radios, more or less in all devices that play music.

AudioID, from m2any GmbH, is a key contributor to resolving this task. The company produces leading software products and services for identifying or searching for audio contents.
