AIIM Contributes to Habitat for Humanity and Assists Businesses Affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita
AIIM, the Enterprise Content Management Association,
will be contributing $10,000 to Habitat
for Humanity for helping victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. AIIM
will also be offering disaster recovery publications, free of charge, to
the information technology community.
"This is a time when a lot of attention is focused on disaster
recovery," states AIIM President John Mancini. "I have personally heard
from a number of our members in the Gulf region who have been both
personally and professionally affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. We
hope this contribution will help individuals in rebuilding their homes, and
want to also offer assistance to organizations in rebuilding their
businesses."
It is estimated that more than 455,000 housing units in Mississippi,
Louisiana, and Alabama will need to be replaced or totally rebuilt as a
result of Hurricane Katrina. Nearly 156,000 of those units were home to
families with household incomes of less than $20,000 a year. Nearly 99,000
more were home to families with annual incomes of less than $35,000. "Many
non-profit organizations are doing incredible work directly in the region,
and we believe it is important for all associations and non-profits to do
what they can to help in this effort."
In addition to the direct contribution to Habitat for Humanity, AIIM is offering
at no charge a series of online publications that will assist businesses in
preparing for and recovering from disasters. Publications are available on
the AIIM website at http://www.aiim.org/article-aiim.asp?ID=22422.
"Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have clearly demonstrated the ongoing risk
facing organizations that have not made adequate plans to insure business
continuity and to prepare for potential disaster recovery," notes Mancini.
"Central to the ability to recover from a disaster, is a plan that takes
into consideration the information assets of an organization, with the same
urgency and care as any other critical business asset."
