East Coast to Help Gulf Coast: Long Island Music Community Presents Exciting Hurricane Katrina Benefit Concert

  Share With Friends

Long Islanders looking for ways to help victims of Hurricane Katrina are invited to attend an exciting musical benefit on Saturday, October 15, titled "From Long Island to Louisiana With Love" at The Inter-Media Art Center, 370 New York Avenue in Huntington.

Coordinated by The Inter-Media Art Center and ZydecoRoad.com, an online publication that promotes Louisiana music and its artists in the New York metropolitan area, the event will feature a wide array of live Louisiana Cajun and Zydeco music, and a unique Creole food court sponsored by three Long Island-based restaurants; Yazoo City, The Bayou and R.S. Jones. Proceeds will benefit hurricane relief efforts being coordinated on Long Island through the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and the North Shore Animal League.

"We were all deeply moved by the images of people struggling for safety and survival in New Orleans in the wake of this disaster. I knew that we had to do something to assist in the relief efforts," said Paule Pachter, founder and editor of ZydecoRoad.com. "Since we are very much connected to the Louisiana music industry, it seemed natural for us to celebrate the region's music while helping our friends in need."

"From Long Island to Louisiana with Love" features performances by some of the northeast's most popular Cajun and Zydeco artists including, Lil' Anne and the Hot Cayenne, River City Slim and the Zydeco Hogs, and The Doc Marshalls. The benefit will be held at the Inter-Media Arts Center, 370 New York Avenue (IMAC) in Huntington. Tickets are $35.00 and selling fast. They are available by calling 631.439.ARTS or by visiting www.imactheater.org. "This was a great opportunity for us to do something and to show our love and support for the people of New Orleans," explained Michael Rothbard, Executive Director of IMAC, a non-profit performing arts center. "When Paule approached us with this idea, it was only natural for us to become involved and support the relief efforts," he continued.

www.Zydecoroad.com was recently updated with new material on many of the performers participating in the event. The site also provides numerous links for people to contribute to Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts.
