Roberts Confirmed by Senate as Chief Justice

John G. Roberts, Jr., of Maryland, was confirmed by the US Senate, by an overwhelming majority, for the position of Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Senators of the 109th Congress confirmed Roberts, a U.S. Appeals Court Judge, by 78 votes for to 22 against.

His nomination, to replace William H. Rehnquist was received by the Senate on September 6th, 2005.
