Catalyst Announces SAS/SATA Analyzer Cascade Capability

New Capability Allows for Time-Synchronized Operation Across 32 Channels

Catalyst Enterprises, Inc., a leading manufacturer of advanced design verification and test tools for Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), Serial ATA (SATA), PCI Express(TM), USB 2.0, and other technologies, today announced a major hardware upgrade to its STX Master(TM) Series of SAS and SATA protocol analyzers. This new capability provides developers the ability to use up to eight multi-port analyzers to capture and display time-synchronized SAS or SATA traffic on up to 32 links, using a single, integrated configuration and display interface.

"The data communication models and advanced topologies used in modern storage technologies present unique challenges to the developer community," stated Paul Mutschler, director, storage division, Catalyst Enterprises, Inc. "The ability to collectively capture and time-correlate multiple asynchronous SAS or SATA traffic streams that may be logically related, but are physically separate, provides a significant advantage to the developer in terms of increased visibility and instant characterization of systemic operation."

New Capability Adds Multi-Port Capture; Expands Display and Trigger Capabilities

The cascade capability synchronizes up to 32 SAS and/or SATA traffic streams from up to eight STX multi-port analyzers into a single, intuitive display. Captured bus traffic is automatically uploaded into a single view, which can be configured to display bus traffic from any or all of the individual links captured. A cross-channel trigger capability is also provided, which allows users to specify events that may occur on any channel monitored to satisfy a trigger condition. Complex trigger and filter capabilities are easily defined using either an easy mode interface or Catalyst's powerful, advanced mode 24-level state sequencer.

Providing a Total Solution

The cascade capability is the latest in a series of powerful feature enhancements to Catalyst's hardware-based SAS/SATA analyzer/emulator solution. The STX Master Series is an all-in-one development solution for engineering professionals involved in storage architecture design in the rapidly growing SAS and SATA technology markets. The STX-230 (two-port), STX-430 (four-port), and STX-430IB (wide port) are designed to provide full analysis and emulation coverage for SATA and SAS protocols, including an ability to analyze both protocols simultaneously and at different speeds.

Availability

The cascade capability is available now as a standard feature on Catalyst STX-430 Series analyzer/emulator systems.
