Iraq Constitution Approved and Printed
This week, Iraq's constitution was released for printing and distribution to the Iraqi people. They have the next 30 days to study the constitution and to debate the constitution amongst themselves.
The Iraqi government has an outreach program to the local and provincial governments and is talking about the importance of the constitution, talking about what it does for democratic principles in Iraq.
The insurgents want to stop this process.
In a press briefing, Major General Rick Lynch said "Zarqawi wants to stop it, but he can't. He can't. And it will continue on. And there will be a referendum, and the people of Iraq will vote -- democracy in action. And there will be elections in December. And unfortunately, there will be surges of violent activity around those times."
"Zarqawi has zero effect against the Iraqi security forces, the coalition forces. We continue our missions. He's taking it out on innocent civilians -- most unfortunate."
