Samarra Joint Raid Nets Suspects, Weapons, VBIEDs
TIKRIT, Iraq -- Based on information gathered from Iraqi civilians, a joint raid in Samarra at about 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 17 detained three suspected terrorists, one of whom tested positive for explosive residue at the scene.
Iraqi Army and Coalition Force Soldiers seized $1,500 ( U.S.), 66,000 Dinar, two cell phones, two combat knives and several blank identification cards.
The detainees told security personnel they were preparing two vehicles at the scene for use as vehicle borne improvised explosive devices.
Security forces destroyed the two suspected VBIEDs at the site.
