Presidential Pets Make Fashion Statement
NEW YORK, N.Y. - A fashionable and historical ladies scarf immortalizing such animals as Thomas Jefferson's mockingbird, Abraham Lincoln's goats, Lyndon Johnson's mongrel and George H.W. Bush's Springer spaniel was released today by Capital Ties, a New York company.
"We started out with a plan to make just a Presidential dogs scarf," said Stuart Hotchkiss, Executive Creative Director and Owner of Capital Ties. "but midway into the research I realized there was enough history to create an entire zoo.
Hotchkiss and his designer, Paola Merazzi of Como Italy, used a myriad of images as well as their own imaginations to try and reconstruct history. Obviously, the perfect solution would have been to try and contact all the families of past Presidents and obtain real photograph and illustrations of the actual pets, said Hotchkiss. But I also wanted to finish this project in my lifetime.
A total of twelve colors and screens were used to produce this silk twill scarf finished with hand-rolled edges. Hotchkiss claims that to the greatest extent possible, we tried to replicate the quality of an Hermes scarf. We are also able to offer it as a collector's item for less than half their price.
Hotchkiss describes the design of the scarf as a repeat of sixteen different animals, with the names of the pets underneath each image and the animal info (types of breeds and species) encircling the images. The center image is the bald eagle because as Hotchkiss says, it's the national pet.
