USAID Launches Web Site on Iraq Development Projects
Site to help Americans understand U.S. aid to Iraq, make contributions
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched a Web site to provide Americans information about development projects under way in Iraq and make contributions to them, USAID Administrator Andrew Natsios announced September 9.
All projects on the Web site, http://www.iraqpartnership.org/, have been selected from USAID/Iraq's current mission portfolio allowing donors to "confidently and securely donate" to projects in Iraq, according to the announcement.
Initial opportunities include the option to purchase desks for classrooms, water pumps for farm cooperatives or computers for a business center, USAID said, with donations for as little as $10 accepted.
The site was developed in cooperation with GlobalGiving, a leader in online philanthropy.
U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Dr. Zalmay Khalilzad remarked, "Active citizen participation is the hallmark of democracy. Iraq's success will assist in democratizing a vital region of the world and increase prospects for global security and prosperity for future generations. IraqPartnership.org engages American citizens and multiplies the impact of official U.S. development assistance for Iraq."
