Erik Hoffer, president of CGM Applied Security Technologies(CGM-AST), a subsidiary of Digital Descriptor Systems, Inc. (DDSI) , chaired the first-ever government and private sector conference on planning for disasters, including the development of a Business Continuity of Operations Plan (B-COOP) prior to the impact of a catastrophic event (natural or terrorist-based) impacting the economic bottom line. The International Cargo Security Council and Transportation Security Administration sponsored the conference.

"The precarious location of New Orleans combined with the wrath of Katrina has shown the world that business continuity planning is a reality for all companies, wherever situated, large and small. In addition to the long-term investment we must make to help the individuals, business and communities affected by Katrina, all non-affected businesses need to develop viable disaster plans," said Hoffer, a renowned expert in protective security technology for the global supply chain. "Katrina has shown us that it could happen to any one of us and that planning is the key, whether for the basic evacuation plan or the continuing operations of affected businesses and government operations," added Hoffer, who founded CGM in 1977.
