The Forgotten War - Car Bomb in Basra Signals Iran Directing War Toward the South Near Iran’s Border

Night Watch: BASRA - Action concerning this front does not receive nearly the coverage that it used to even at the beginning of the year. In a possible new development the action seems to be heading south in and around Basra.

This was the worst car bombing in Basra since the invasion of Iraq two years ago. Southern Iraq is controlled by the British and this attack targeted Iraqi security forces. It is understandable that Tehran’s Defense Ministry, under Brig. General Mostafa Mohammad Najjar, would want to stretch the occupation forces of the lost alliance as thinly as possible.

It may also be significant that with Basra being on Iran’s border, the attack, signalling a deterioration of the security situation, could provide Tehran with its excuse to intervene in the name of stability. That would give the West, especially the British, a leading member of the EU3 nuclear negotiations something to debate besides Iran’s nuclear program.

What also works to Tehran’s advantage, as they continue to call the shots, is that London-Washington are still proudly pursuing their inane policy of protecting a government in Baghdad controlled by Tehran.

This is unique in world history. A military alliance protecting a government controlled by its enemy. London-Washington may be so confused that they may not even view Tehran as an enemy, but perhaps as a future international partner.

Their opague analysis is the result of London-Washington having played a leading role in Cold War, for 45-years, and its institutionalized confusion. That is why leaders and officials, foreign policy experts, in both captials, whenever they attempt to explain the current war, just obfuscate the issue. They have no chance to see things clearly.

So when war begins against Israel, it will provide London-Washington with their excuse to withdrawal, blaming the new crisis, if not all of it on Israel.
